I can see the car dealer testifying at Elly’s murder trial about what he told Jon to tell her. She’d get off; it would be declared a “justifiable homicide.”
We budget to pay necessary bills, anything left over (if any) is divided 50/50 for us to spend however we want, no questions asked. I’ve been known to sock my share away for a few years to make such a “foolish” purchase, guilt-free.
After 20 years of marriage, I can confirm that it’s easier to get forgiveness after the purchase than it is to get permission before. However, a sports car may be pushing it!
If he traded in their sedan for the family, he will not live. As long as she has her practical vehicle for the kids, pets, groceries, etc., there should be no problem!
My wife & I always work together picking a car. In fact after problems with a 2nd hand Hillman, my wife read Car & Driver in self defense. An issue featuring a 1965 Volvo 122s was so positive that she said “that’s our next car”..& so it was. Volvos ever since right up to our last car, a ’93 240 SW. Oh yes, there was a ’70 Volvo 1800E I had always wanted purchased in 2000 after retirement, but sold after 18 months later to make room for another practical ’93 240 SW we still have.
I do not know about the Canadian dental system and what Dentist’s make. My friend who is a dentist and has his own offices and staff, lives on acreage in the country in a fine house, he and his wife own and drive Mercedes, he has put 2 children through college and they have vacation/retirement property by a lake near Dallas/Ft Worth.
Hubby always worked me quietly until I’d finally give in and agree to his purchases. Did that as a little boy with his parents so he learned the art well.
Two-thirds as bad as Texas, where it is either too hot, too cold, or raining. It is never too hot in Vancouver, but the rain makes up for it. Keep a roof over your head. It’s cheaper and safer in a rollover.

Two questions he’ll get asked. “How much did it cost?” and “How little do we need it?”

Easy for YOU to say. You’re safe back at the dealership. This poor sap has to plead his case to a biased jury.

She’ll rip that price-tag off the window and spend an equal amount of $$ on herself! Way to go, Ellie!
