He’s about to meet Harold, who’s what’s known as a Wal-Mart security guard. Accompanied by Gladys, who’s what’s known as that car’s owner.

I thought trunk constructionists were arborists.

I am sure JVA had a clever play on words in mind when he wrote this caption, but I am at a loss. Does Walter construct trunks? It appears he is constructing something in the trunk of this Studebaker, but what? Of course these days it is more hip to be a deconstructionist. Which is not the same as a destructionist.

Cleo and Claude have a dim view of Clara’s book club gatherings. They don’t realize that the point of the meetings is to give the ladies a chance to vent about their husbands and pets!

Well, Cleo and Claude, it depends on what kind of book they are discussing. My wife and her friends are secretly in love with Jamie Frasier, and enjoy talking about the Outlander series for hours.

Walter’s proclivity keeps him from working on large projects….or ones that take too long, either.

Claude and Cleo would love the book reports in Sid’s bar (“Diamond Lil”) – the puns on the titles are real groaners.

And yes – dogs are allowed there.

Walter is building a trunk in his car’s trunk (or tries to).

It’s an improvement, though – the last times he did anything similar he either got arrested for truncating, developed hernia or got trampled on.

Hi-Dee-Ho, Cleo Pals and the Cleo-curious….

don’t worry… even if your browser’s not in Private Mode, you’re among friends…

We won’t tell anybody you read the Sept 28th  2020 “CLEO and COMPANY” on Sherpa…

or how much time you spent commenting about it, here on this ten-year-old Ballard St.

What happens on Cleo stays on Cleo.

    For the most part.

    Book club…. riiight

A friend of mine wanted me to join her book club, probably a dozen years ago.

When I told her I don’t read much fiction she said “That’s OK… some of them talk about the book…. Most of us just drink a lot of wine, and chat.”

    I declined… I never was an “A LOT” of wine drinker…

but it reminded me of the women’s “consciousness-raising” group I was once persuaded to join.

The 80’s version of #MeToo… or at least that’s what I expected.

But instead of raising their consciousness, the group’s focus seemed to be on pathways to un- consciousness.

Wine, booze, dope… the little bit of semi-political prattling sounded more like drunken meandering.

    No thanks.

    I don’t think Clara’s the drinking type…

But my next question would be about what they read…

    Cos I doubt it’s the comics…

and that’s the main thing I read.

Good morning, Ballardeers! Q Date: 199.47634.44 Rainy and cooler in the Midwest. Thanks again Canada! I know that it won’t be as welcomed in the middle of winter, but I won’t complain about it (maybe) then.

Coyoty said it better than anything I can come up with 10 years ago.

I always thought of book clubs as a way of getting together and discussing the humanity and nuances covered through the imagination and ability of the author.

    Snicker… snort…. Bah hahahahahahaha!

Y’all keep yer powder dry. ((((HUGS))))

I read for enjoyment now. If I joined a book club, I know it’d feel like homework, and put the DVD on just before the meeting.
