I’d like to think that Breathed re-drew all of these (it even seems likely for the Minion and possibly for Hobbes), but Dory seems to show that at least one, and possibly all of the Disney characters were copy/pasted.
I believe this falls under the “Fair Use” copyright loop hole.
“In its most general sense, a fair use is any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and “transformative” purpose, such as to comment upon, criticize, or parody a copyrighted work. Such uses can be done without permission from the copyright owner.”
Hobbes is reading Inc, a magazine for entrepreneurs, that has a picture of Woodstock on the cover. Apparently Woodstock landed on his feet after Peanuts shut down.
I’d probably vote for the Minion. I’d like to vote for Hobbes too but Bill Watterson would probably come after the marketers with a shotgun. He’s that kind of guy.

How about Skippy Squirrel from Animaniacs?

Watterson would never go for that, of course.

All copyrighted characters, as far as I can see. The winner has to be a fresh idea. Opus has that going for him at least.

5 low denomination currency units on Hobbes.

The Mayhem campaign works so well for another company, Met Life might want to try the Warners.

I wonder if Watterson has seen this strip? I’m sure he will be mailing a letter over to Berk. I really respect him for not selling out his characters.
