I’d be willing to deal with repeating the last month or so of strips to have the timeline correlate to current time. ((I understand, this entire strip is repeats))
When sibling and I was kids we did not get up early for Christmas gifts. There was not much coming for gifts and then Christmas was over with. Our mom only bought what was necessary. No Barbies either.
When I was a kid we went to church Christmas Eve, then went home and opened presents (you can imagine how long that made the church service seem to last). Reason for this was we usually went over to our various relatives’ homes on Christmas Day and got more presents. When my kids were born we were in a different state than from my folks and my in-laws. So my kids got to open presents at my folks house on Christmas Eve. (With the added fun of my usually managing to duck out beforehand to reappear as Santa, then reappear after Santa left. Took them a long time to stop believing in Santa.) Christmas Day they got to open presents at my mother-in-law’s house. A few days later we would head back home and open more presents. For my kids, Christmas excitement lasted days.
Reminds me of the beginning of one story in a Dennis the Menace Christmas comic book. He runs into his parents’ bedroom Christmas morning, shouting, “SANTA’S BEEN HERE!” Henry says to Alice, “Why is it, that during school days, we can’t get him up; but on Christmas, he’s up at the crack of dawn?” Alice replies, “Because during the night, he hears Santa’s reindeer on the roof.”
