One Thanksgiving Mom was calculating how many potatoes to mash for each guest and to leave some for my then fiancee Kathy to make potato pancakes. “Cheryl [my sister] won’t eat much.” Cheryl (on arrival): “Oh, boy! Homemade mashed potatoes!” Kathy had enough for one pancake. I blame my nephew – he was 3 months in utero at the time.

My dog had a problem years back and the vet told me to feed him mashed potatoes or oatmeal… it’ worked.

Never had a dog turn down mashed potatoes (as an occasional treat).
