We had to carry our devices instead of having them implanted. Those things were so fragile! When you dropped them, they crumbled to dust immediatly. And the internet would break down on a regular basis. You didn’t even get a signal everywhere.
The next generation is growing up to live less well than their parents. A trend may be forming that will keep them in thrall to their masters aka the aristocracy of our country.

We only had 200Mbps connections! Our phones were not bendable! And they couldn’t even read our brains, lol.
