You can rent gowns. Many people do. And, technically, he COULD buy his tux as well.

Because he’s just the groom; the wedding has nothing to do with him.

Not the marriage, you understand, the wedding.

This is one of those traditions for which Queen Victoria is guilty off. Prior to her wedding, women used their best clothes and they weren’t necessarily white.

Queen Victoria was making the statement that she was a pure virgin bride and the nobility decided to copy her and from there it tricked down to the masses.

It is perpetuated by the Marriage Industry Complex that Tom and Ray Magliozzo warned about.

My wedding gown only cost $75, but that was not cheap at the time. I did save it, but then threw it in the trash when my husband left me for a younger woman. I could not make it into something I could wear. My daughter did not want to wear it for her wedding. She thought it would bring bad luck to her marriage. She got divorced anyway. Such is life!

My wife and I were just talking about this, especially since a local TV station reported that 7 out of 10 women did something they absolutely hated doing, to wit, buying a bridesmaid’s dress. And Ironically, even though I owned a tux at the time (being, as I still am, a 4th degree Knight of Columbus), my wife insisted I rent a tux for the wedding because she wanted me to wear tails.
