Caulfield: I think my problem with calling it "turkey day" has less to do with semantics and logic...and more to do with not fitting in. I feel like the only one who thinks it should be called "mashed potatoes day". Frazz: You fit in more thank you know.

I love mashed potatoes, too.

and usually the gravy can fix anything that should not be there but you have to eat it anyway to avoid the hassles of not doing so. Especially when you are a kid.

But you can’t make mashed potato salad sandwiches for the next two weeks.

I really like mashed potatoes, too. But what I really want is a hot, buttered, sweet potato. Real butter, not margarine.

Might as well call it Gravy Day, it goes on everything, Mashed Potatoes, Turkey, Dressing, maybe even sprinkle some on the green bean salad…….

thebird55 – ditto. Love sweet potato and acorn squash because it is its own serving dish holding brown sugar, honey and butter. Yum.

Going duck hunting the day after Tday was always the best, ‘cause it meant there would be sandwiches made by my buddy’s momma made with : Turkey (white meat only) dressing that was baked as patties, a slab of cranberry jelly (you know that canned stuff) mustard(yellow) and mayo all on think fresh white bread. Ah, the days , the days.

Leave it as is! We need to acknowledge why the day was set aside. Look up Pres. Lincoln’s proclamation, we should be thankful.

turkey day as it is probably the only day people cook a big turkey. I love that Thanksgiving has a bit less hype than the other holidays.

Meh.
docredbird about 8 years ago
Uh, no. It isn’t called “turkey day” because you eat so much turkey. It is called “Turkey Day” because as @car2ner points out, it is only day most people eat a meal where an entire turkey is cooked. Lots of people eat mash potatoes all year long.

Am I the only one thinking “Pecan Pie Day”?
Night-Gaunt49[Bozo is Boffo] about 8 years ago
Eat Big Day works better since I like to mix my mashed potatoes with turkey, gravy and stuffing.

Canadians like to point out that Thanksgiving Day in October leaves sufficient gap before Christmas that one is ready for turkey again.

On a mild side track —
I think I need to be adopted by some nice, friendly, British folk. I’ve had a yearning for roast goose for some time now and have no connection with anyone familiar with that particular fowl.
(Speaking of which — does the Queen issue a pardon for the national goose? When she does, are there awful puns included in the ceremony?)

Kroger has geese around here, and I am sure the Internet is overflowing with recipes and their variant tips and trivia. What is the problem?

Mashed potatoes with gravy, and you got my vote.
