Good thing he didn’t try to explain how he remembers the correct pronunciation of “Willamette”…

But I’ll bet he remembered it a lot during that bar fight in Coos Bay.

Those people down in New Orleans don’t even know how to pronounce their own town. In Boston, everyone pronounces it “Pennant Winners.” How do you spell “Lazarus?

A schwa sounds like any vowel the way it’s pronounced in Lake Wobegon…although as global warming continues and their jaws thaw out, it is becoming possible to distinguish among them sometimes.

As a native Oregonian, now transplanted on the east coast, this drives me CRAZY. Scott - you nailed this one!! And that’s totally something you would’ve had to think in Coos Bay. hahaha

PS: @ mikecycle, you had a true friend there &got good advice. :)

It’s easy to find a bar in Coos Bay. It’s the Library that’s hard to find.

I grew up in Colorado, pronounced by English speakers with a flat “a” like in hat. If you want to insist on the Spanish “a,” then all three “o’s” should sound like oh’s. Co lo rá do.

I’ve had some good times in bars in Coos Bay. Not recently, unfortunately.

    Love that town…

All those R’s in Worshington are the leftovers from the word Libary.

Hey, I’m from the Coos Bay area… Yep, it’s Warsh-a-tone-ia if you’re from Oregon . But he’s better than anyone south of the border. :) I don’t usually use “gun”, I use “g-in.” Maybe that’s from being a rural south coaster.

    Much appreciate this strip.
