Meh, don’t listen to them. They’re the ones who are probably going to end up getting married right out of high school and wind up doing someone else’s laundry for the rest of their lives.

Don’t worry, Gracie – someday those airheads’ll be applying to you for jobs … and then, revenge! HAHA HAHA

This totally isn’t funny - I know one little girl that got this treatment and after that she didn’t want to do her homework and deliberately made herself fail on tests :(

And so continues the dumbing of America, the pasture where graze the sheep to be fleeced by politicians, hucksters, and televangelists.

Steve Jobs with all his I-stuff and Bill Gates despite his bad haircut are VERY cool.

these attitudes may never change, but the people who are smart, determined, and resourceful will always have the last laugh.

I agree with JmcaRice: Gracie, hang in there. You will be the one with the great education (probably a lot of it courtesy of scholarships and grants, thanks to your intelligence and hard work), the great job and the one to buy the first property of all of your classmates. There will come a time when you will be appreciated by your peers and your bosses big time for all of your talents. Never give up, keep working hard and you will be rewarded. It is still possible. You think it is so far away but time will pass much faster than you think. I know there will be a lot of people who will comment that this is “only a comic strip” and I shouldn’t take it seriously but I feel that there are girls out there who relate to Gracie and they should be encouraged never to give up because of their dunderhead classmates who only care about movie stars, rock stars, etc. In the scheme of things, that doesn’t matter. Smart girls rule in the end.

I find it really sad that all these people are responding to Gracie as if she were a living, breathing human being. SHE’S A CHARACTER IN A CARTOON!!! Can you not tell fantasy from reality? Why don’t you take that sentiment and tell some REAL KIDS?!! The ones who are quietly sitting in the back of the class, desperately shy, not wanting to get involved because they feel ashamed about not really getting the subject matter or who are deathly afraid because of having their difficult life at home under abusive parents being made public? Showing compassion and understanding to someone who doesn’t exist and eschewing the kid who could really use the support!? NOW, THAT’S UNCOOL!!!

artisanx, I’m fairly certain that everyone commenting here realizes that Gracie is, in fact, a character in a cartoon. So why do they respond to her as if she were real? Several reasons: a) because they are speaking to Hector and Carlos by proxy, b) because they are offering encouragement and solace to all the Gracies out there who read this strip and the comments, c) because perhaps they relate to Gracie and - through her - express their grief at being put down for being smart as well as their determination not to be stopped by the ignorance of others. There are probably other reasons, but these will suffice to start.

Pffft, being cool is overrated. And if she’s anything like my friends, I’m sure she makes being smart not so boring. They make up their own jokes, that no one else would laugh at. AND! They get to laugh at the stupid people. I love being friends with the smart people. High School is so much better than Middle :]

Then again, Gracie can definitely be insufferable - as seen in today’s strip (Thursday). That isn’t cool…

    cdward, good answer :)
