    Lewreader: let’s put it this way. Hard working Ben Franklin worked harder when people were looking and Honest Abe was especially honest when it suited him (according to some lore).

    The best rule of thumb I ever heard was, “Before you say anything, ask yourself four questions: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it helpful? Is it kind? Go ahead and say it only if all four answers are honestly yes.”

    Personally, I’ve found it’s also the hardest rule of thumb to follow. :|
