hahah, I know this situation - my 10 year old HATES having to write stories. Math, reading, geology, biology, English, Danish, fine but the weekly short story is a killer, normally takes about 3 hours or so…
Great excuse for staying up late–he has to do his homework! If he’d buckled down and started doing it right away, without the drama, he would have been done hours ago.
I get this from my 7 year old also, and can relate. The proportion is pretty accurate also. I’m trying to get her to understand that these will be the “good ol’ days” soon, so she should enjoy them.
You know, now that I think about it, my sister is like Mike. For every hour of her workday, there’s an equal hour of complaining about it that I have to listen to.
He does sort of have a point, though. My 7 (!!) year old Goddaughter (who is in the first grade) is bringing home 2 hours of homework a day. That’s ridiculous! One workbook page or a short spelling list or something of that sort - fine - but 2 hours worth?
I never liked doing homework either but I don’t remember ever complaining about it, and certainly not at the top of my lungs like this! Homework was just a fact of life. I did it on the bus or as soon as I got home from school then I had the whole rest of the night to do whatever I wanted. Complaining about it instead of just doing it would have only made the dreaded chore take that much longer to complete so why not just go ahead, get it done, then forget about it?!?
@catlady1 - not sure if you’ll read this or not, but I’m curious what homework your goddaughter has each night. My daughter has a sheet of math each night and 20 minutes of reading, which I think is reasonable. Is it only her teacher or everyone in 2nd grade? If it’s everyone, is her school under pressure to improve test scores? That’s terrible because it’s been proven that too much homework really doesn’t help them learn, and I would think it would discourage them.

Thanks, Trapper. Lotta psychics out there.
Still remember this from almost 25 years ago with our son.
