Christianity wasn’t supposed to have splintered into hundreds of sects, groups, denominations etc. once the true religion was given.
…which, I suppose, is why some translations of the Bible refer to him as John the Baptizer instead of John the Baptist.
“John the person who submerges people momentarily in order to confirm that they had truly repented of their evil works and started a new life following God”. Thorough, but kinda hard to put on a business card… :D :D :D
