ooh, the dreaded “could get worse” incantation

And this is why power wires are run underground these days. I wonder what the original run date of this particular strip was?

Remember Murphy’s Law what can go wrong will go wrong. Electricity is very fragile in our use of it. Power can go off for hundreds of reasons. Better hope you have methane to heat with instead of it being electric.

People who love trees should be held liable when trees take out the power. Our power company is removing trees because they are sick and tired of doing it after storms and restoring power. Much cheaper to take them down before hand. But people are screaming about their precious trees. They should have to put up a bond so when their precious trees fall down, the bond pays for all the damage.

At least digital cartoons don’t use up a ton of ink whenever there’s a power outage.

@needachuckle: those trees are evil. It’s part of their plan to destroy the electrical grid and rid of the world of all people.

We’re lucky. We live just a few blocks away from a hospital, so we’re on their grid. In the 16 years we’ve lived here we’ve only lost power 3 or 4 times (and once was because of a rampaging squirrel). I’m not counting the time last week when the power company called us and said that they were shutting down our section for about an hour for maintenance.

I bought a generator before W2K. I use it about twice a year for 4 hours because that’s how long they take to fix the power. Once I had to run it 14 hours after a bad snowstorm. Needed it to watch the Super Bowl that time.

It’ll be an interesting night. Who’s sleep with whom to conserve body heat? Hmmm??? :o)

When I lived near Naples, Italy, I would lose power pretty much on a daily basis. Lucky for me I lived near the distro point and my outages were generally short lived. I even had power for many days in a row on occasion. Only recall one 24 hour outage while I was there. Some of my co-workers were lucky have power for 24 hours straight and frequently went without for days, or even weeks, on end. It’s surprising what you can get used to when you have no choice. We’ll leave the discussion of water quality and trash disposal for another day…

My next assignment took me to Hawaii and shortly after arriving we experienced a major hurricane. Power didn’t go out until the worst of the storm and came back only a few hours later. My neighbors complained but I was astounded… it’s all about what you’re used to.
