Mark: Ms. Caucus - if you don't mind a personal question, when did you first start having difficulties with your husband Clinton? Joanie: Well, Mike, it's difficult to pinpoint it, but I guess it might have been one night last summer, when his bowling buddies came to dinner...at the end of the meal, one of his friends complimented me on my french fries. Clinton leaned back in his chair, and said with a big, stupid grin, "My wife, I think I'll keep her!" I broke his nose.

It would have a different implication given the relative power & status, of the genders in our society, and the roles “assigned” to each — especially 40 years ago. Context matters.

I love my wife enough to go to the trouble (and mess) of deep-frying stuff. She loves me enough to never suggest it.

Oh pooh! I remembered the punch line as “I decked him”. See what 40 years (plus living through the 70s) does to the memory. But this is still my favorite early Joannie strip, even if I had it wrong.

That ugly commercial infuriated so many of us!! I wonder how long it was left to air or if it was pulled.Mary J Carpenter wrote a song inspired by that line

I heard that line more than once when I was a kid, (not on tv), in the ’50s.
