Reporter: Ron, does the President have any comment on the most recent disclosures in the Watergate case! Ziegler: No! Watergate! Watergate! What is the matter with you guys?! What is this senseless orgy of recrimination week after week?! I've already said all that I'm going to! So why don't you stop wasting both our time and ask me questions I can deal with? Reporter: Ron, what color shirt is the President wearing today? Ziegler: That's better. Blue.

First mention of Watergate, I think. Why doesn’t the Zoom work? I can’t read half the Sunday comics.

Watergate was previously mentioned in a Sunday strip in the middle of Mike and Mark’s ’72 Summer Road Trip, while they were in Washington.
But this does mark the point where the strip began to be consumed with the subject, just as America was at the time. May 22, 1973 to September 2, 1974; it seems interminable just reading it, and it must have been a thousand times worse having to read about it in the newspaper every day and see it in the nightly news.
