I bet Arlo does have some good ideas on how to get the blood pumping, the skin glowing, and maybe even breaking out in a sweat. It’ll warm Janis up too.

I love taking pre-dawn walks and it never really mattered how cold it was

I know how to dress warm, so that still doesn’t matter, but now I have COPD and if the temps are much below freezing my lungs just cant take it anymore

I know how Janis feels. You get that blood pumping and you do not notice the cold (or at least not so much). Then after about 10 minutes back inside, that warmth leaves you body and the warm inside the house doesn’t feel so warm anymore. I love walking outside and have done so in all temps before, but this year, I just could not make myself go outside for walks during this arctic spell. Have decided to start again today. High temp is supposed to be 20 degrees F. today. That will feel almost balmy. I do have a treadmill for walking inside, but that is so boring.

Interesting. Jimmy lives in the Deep South, but I always think of the strip’s setting as New England.

But at least Janis goes for a blanket rather than setting the thermostat higher.

Try cutting firewood. It warms you twice.

You do break a sweat and if you change all of your clothes when you get back from a walk, you won’t get cold like that. I used to go tent camping with the Boy Scouts. My favorite time was in the winter (no bugs!). Going for a walk then changing your clothes was our pre-bedtime standard operating procedure.

My wife hates walking the dogs in cold weather (anything below 70F), but our newest mutt insists she go along.

Love my early morning runs. “The birds are up but the dogs aren’t.”

Isn’t it strange. 68 degrees in your home in the summer feels wonderful, but 68 degrees in you home in the winter is too cold.

I have a treadmill for cold days – not really for the temperature but the snow/ice makes me “penguin” walk and that’s no fun at all.

I walked in frigid 40 degree weather this morning. That is cold enough for me.

Try housework. Bet it works as good as walking.

I have a theory. Heating the body by exercise uses a lot of calories because you can do more because the body is not overheating. This leaves an temporary energy deficit where it helps to super=warm the body while it replenishes energy stores. In other words, it feels great to warm up after being out in the cold. Warm blanket and cup of tea or cocoa.
