I’ve never lived where we had a sidewalk that could be shoveled. While I understand that it is the property owner’s responsibility to maintain the sidewalk, for some of them, they’re not able to do it quickly. If they are physically not able to shovel it themselves, they have to find someone to do it for them. We lived for a couple of years in a house that needed the driveway shoveled (so the snow wouldn’t turn into ice), and neither my husband nor myself should have been doing it, because of our health problems. I wished that I knew some young people would be willing to come shovel it, within 24 hours, but I didn’t know who to call. Would have paid them too.

We live out in the country but I work in town. The city texts alerts on a broadcast system after a snowstorm saying sidewalks have to be cleared within the next 24 hours. Then the next day they text a warning that city crews will clear sidewalks as needed and bill the property owner. Of course I don’t know how well this billing works but at least the sidewalks get shoveled. I believe that seniors and disabled can get help with theirs.

Or they have a really good Home Owners Association. If it’s an upscale neighborhood, the HOA would clear the walks.

You people all need to move to warmer climates. My Massachusetts mother always said that snow is beautiful unless you have to go to work in it.

Most of the villages around Rochester NY have sidewalk plows. My development doesn’t have sidewalks, so i guess i’m off the hook either way.
