When she gets better, maybe they’ll go to PJ Piehole’s.

Plus, he probably makes yodeling duck noises when he turns the pages.

To a little kid, it’s not about the story that’s being read. It’s about the ritual, the sound of your comforting voice, winding down from the day, and the reassurance that you love them.

When I was a sprog, a favorite aunt told me a story she made up as she went. Next night night I wanted her to tell me the exact same story. (and yes, I corrected her every time she changed a word!)

This seems so real! Alice knows what she wants from her daddy, even if Peter does not. Sweet….

When my kids were little twenty-five years ago, my father-in-law bought a book of fairy tales for each set of grandkids and then recorded himself reading it to great effect. One copy of each went to each family so the kids could listen to Grampa anytime they wanted on their toy tape players, turning the pages each time he said, Beep! even though he was thousands of miles away. It was the most genius gift ever.

Such a super gift, amaryllis2! And when he dies he will still be there to read the stories.
