It is difficult to imagine which is worse; being awakened in the manner of most military basic training units (via banging or kicking a metal garbage can across the room accompanied by the DI shouting at the top of his/her lungs), or by having this “old school” narration being the first thing one hears in the morning. Should this relationship continue, it would be helpful to “dial it down” to more normal speech patterns, as his present style tends to get annoying rather quickly. In any event, the initial stages of training seem to have taken hold on the kid, as she is already responding with “Yes, Phantom Commando!” Meanwhile, regarding the “deathless duty” remark, our instructors often use this for an analysis from our students. Does he refer to the mission he has supposedly undertaken, or is he hoping to achieve the longevity successful superheroes enjoy, as mentioned in Review Lesson 9? (On a side note, we were unable to get sound files of our aspiring hero when we first gathered information on him. With this kind of speech pattern, we can only hope his voice does not resemble that of Marvin the Martian from the animated cartoons…)
