The thing that’s disturbing in this strip is not so much the fact that Annie’s boots don’t fit, but that her superior is going to expect her to fire a deadly weapon at a human being!
COSTUMED CRIMEFIGHTERS ACADEMY – Online (for the duration of the emergency)Review Lesson #18: Weapons. Given the fact that many of our graduates tend to have special powers (flight, greater-than-average strength, energizing inanimate objects, instantaneous healing abilities, etc. ) weaponry is not heavily stressed at the Academy. And some among our mortal alumni tend to eschew firearms in favor of martial arts and/or technology (Refer to B. Wayne, Class of ’39, Dean Emeritus; S. Rogers, Class of ’41 and T. Stark, Class of ’63). After all, when you can work with energy weapons, bullets are somewhat passe… almost quaint. Those that do use guns in most cases already have had some training in their care and use, frequently by way of law enforcement or military service. It is still unknown whether our applicant has served in the military, or desired to serve in the same but was rejected for whatever reason. The rifle and sighting scope he possesses looks to be a common type of hunting firearm that can be obtained nearly anywhere. What tends to make us think that he was rejected by the military is that he seems oblivious to the fact that his young protege is still having problems with the footwear he has procured for her. As any sharpshooter will tell you, pain and discomfort anywhere on the body can be a bad distraction when you’re trying to hit a small target at long range.
