COSTUMED CRIMEFIGHTERS ACADEMY – Online (for the duration of the emergency)Review Lesson #20: Influences. One of the reasons that we selected the Phantom Commando for this review is that he presents a curious case and one that is still discussed years later. One such point of controversy is his influences; while his professional attire and language suggest a fondness for the “golden age” of comics, his mannerisms suggest a fondness for the golden age of silent films. (This may explain the use of such obscure terms as hahdah, or the “Phantom of the Opera”-style decor of his base of operations.) This is strange, since the film industry did not catch on to the potential of our graduates until 1941 (refer to Movie Portrayals, C. Kent, Class of ’38, Dean Emeritus). This is unfortunate, as such deportment in public tends to draw negative attention to oneself – laughter and ridicule being chief among the responses.
