Our applicant seems to have overlooked one thing; while a motorcycle is more maneuverable in rough terrain, like the forest in which he has set his base of operations, on the highway its small motor just can’t compete with a police cruiser… complete with a big police cruiser engine, shocks, suspension, etc. In pursuit, he will be overtaken. Also not taken into account is that the state highway department apparently doesn’t get around to fixing the roads terribly often. His apparently limited means – and/or his excessive bravado – has prevented him from acquiring either advanced booster capabilities for his vehicle, or at least protective equipment. (An ER doctor once told us of a grim joke in her workplace: Whaddya call motorcycle riders with no helmets? Organ donors. ) Thus, the predictable thing has happened; the sidecar has broken loose and it looks like he’s about to lose his sidekick, unless he has a backup plan to recover her. (Ironically, he may find his bike far more maneuverable without it.) One of the other things we stress at the Academy is to Know Your Limitations, because sooner or later you will run up against them. Have backup plans reaqdy for just such a contingency, or learn to pick your fights. Speaking of overlooking things, the police chief seems to think that the kid is in worse shape than she probably is. He also is unacquainted with our Classs of ’24 graduate; as her own “Daddy” said, it takes more than a (fill in the blank) to kill that girl.
Popular-culture logic usually demands that a blow to the head will cure amnesia. (I’m sure that I’m not alone in finding the Phantom Commando a bit of a drag by this time, anyway. Not a bit like The Phantom, who is a real hero…)
