COSTUMED CRIMEFIGHTERS ACADEMY – Online (for the duration of the emergency) Review Lesson #35: Gender. It is true that sidekicks usually are the same gender as the protagonist. There are, of course, exceptions. Our Class of ‘63 graduate known as “The Doctor” has had many opposite-sex travelling companions, and B. Wayne (Class of ’39, Dean Emeritus) once had a female as his sidekick (refer to C. Kelley, Class of ’86). The Academy had forseen such relationships, and has a strict code regarding partnerships being solely professional in nature. (Although there was one instance we know of where a protagonist-sidekick relationship led to an “off-duty” marriage; refer to Fourth Incarnation Companions, The Doctor, Class of ’63.) As for the kid’s injuries, It has been noted by many that our Class of ’24 graduate has remarkable recuperative powers, which also qualifies her for “superhero” status, despite the lack of other trappings of the profession. We are likely about to see a demonstration of that.
