Actually, “stealing an identity” isn’t really the same thing as erasing somebody from a computer. It’s more pretending to be that person so you can buy stuff, but then the Real Person is on the hook for payment. REAL LIFE WARNING: in a ridiculous attempt to get people to be honest on their taxes, the IRS requires all dependents, even babies, to have a SSN. The Identity Thieves are stealing the babies’ SSN numbers and getting credit cards and such. Since nobody gets credit for babies usually, it can be years before the theft is detected. CHECK YOUR BABIES’ CREDIT! Sounds silly, but DO IT!
