Well, technically, it’s almost eighty years old by now (The Hobbit was published in 1937), but it’s been about ten years since it became recognizable by most people.
I read the trilogy in 1978. Glad I stuck around long enough to see it done in film so well. A shame the “Hobbit” movie wasn’t made with the same care and quality. A better choice for Bilbo may have improved it.

I read Tokien’s books back in the ’70s so that reference is making me feel… younger.
