It occurs to me that Satchel might be playing along with Bucky here, to allow his pal to appear menacing while both know in their hearts that, as Satchel once said to him, “Kitty, I’ve got pillows tougher than you.”
I was just explaining Pavlov to my nieces when trying to get them to use the bathroom before a long trip. Sometimes just walking in will trigger the urge, such as when you go to brush your teeth; so go, even if you don’t have to.

A real Pavlovian response is when you say “Yes, please” when offered baked meringue and fruit.

Sadly, the flinch response is a good indicator that someone, humans included, is accustomed to being struck routinely. It’s a dead giveaway.

I’m guilty of having a Pavlovian response every time my wife walks into the room.

Is Satchel’s flinching a conditioned response or instinct? His instincts, but it don’t tell him nothing.
