A no win situation.

She could have at least braided Liz’s hair.

You’ll survive, Elizabeth. You were fed, clothed, given plenty of things to play with. You don’t need constant attention and your mother wasn’t gone that long. You’ll be okay and it’s good for you to learn how to be independent.

Easily solved with a hug and a tickle.

Elizabeth did not get into a snit when Elly elected to spend a night with Mrs. Baird to give her company.

I had a “cousin” (her mother & mine were friends ever since elementary school) named Lisa. One summer she spent a lot of time with us, which I didn’t mind. She & I got along great and had a lot of fun. However, near the end of summer, my mother said that we were taking Lisa with us back-to-school shopping. I was indignant. That was OUR night out! (I was one of 7 kids so any special individual parent time was precious to me.) Unfortunately, Lisa overheard my snit. She was so upset that she ran away. My mother explained to me that things were bad at that moment at her home and that we were a ‘safe haven’ for Lisa. We searched for hours; we finally found her back at her home, hiding. I felt so badly that I took the initiative and personally invited her to the coveted shopping night, after a sincere, heartfelt apology.

Some days you just can’t win.

A perfect teaching moment for Ellie with Liz about sharing attention.

Well Lizzie, you have been squirmy & uncooperative in the past when Ellie tried to do your hair or dress you up. Might want to rethink your attitude.

Yes, this is a “teachable moment” for Ell.

Most of y’all are overthinking this! Liz just needs reassuring of her place in mommy’s pantheon. A short, immediate, direct, dose of tickling, hugs and smooches is perfect for smoothing feathers.

Why didn’t Elizabeth ask her mom to braid her hair after she was done with Gayle if she was feeling so “neglected”? I can’t believe this little girl went there…

There’s not enough Elly to go around,it seems!

Elly gave Gayle the motherly attention she is not getting at home from Connie. You have to be pretty desperate for attention if you go to the neighbor kid’s mother for mothering. More evidence that Connie stinks as a step-mother.
