    According to page 404 of the 1999 edition of “The New Dickson Baseball Dictionary”: raps (arch.) A turn at bat for a player or a team. 1st use. 1898 (New York Tribune, May 5; Edward J. Nichols).

    Both this and today’s current strip have the characters mysteriously caught in situations they would seem easily able to get out of (here by digging their way out).
