Have you ever seen the photos or videos of collections of one million pennies? They’re heavy enough to crack cement floors. And try cashing them? – Most stores will refuse you. I dare you to try carrying $50,000 in pennies to pay for a new car in cash. If they were solid copper, you’d make well over the face value for the melt value, but they’re probably just copper-plated zinc. However, if even only 0.01% of them are collectable, THEN we can talk about good luck.
If you take the time to roll the pennies in paper bank rolls, the bank is more likely to accept them. Of course, you don’t HAVE to deposit them all at once! You can also sort them through a Coinstar machine in the supermarket, but then you lose 10% to processing fees…
I save and roll up my coins at the beginning of every year. Once, many years ago I had enough change to help purchase a used Porsche 914. I still have the car.

I always pick up pennies. If it takes one second to pick up a penny, that works out to $36/hr.

I save all my pennies (including the ones I find). Then, once a year I cash them in and use the money to eat out and catch a movie.
