Actually the strip is 6 days a week for dailies and once a week for a Sunday strip, so it goes back to 1992. The 5000 is just a number milestone that represents how long the strip has been in its daily format. Until then it was only a Sunday strip for 70 years.

Ok Jason what does the 5000 strips represent? At 7 days a week 5000 goes to 1996 (half way thru Kemsley’s reign)…
