My mother was heavily Catholic. She died in 2010 and missed all these changes. I do wonder sometimes how she would have reacted to one Pope stepping down and getting a new Pope.
Birthdays are considered feast days and are exempt from Lenten restrictions. Being atheist, those things never really bothered me.
