Here in Kansas City, MO, we have one of the largest St. Patricks’ Day parade in the entire USA. The entire downtown is practically shut down & today is going to be in the 60’s! And no snow or rain! Nice change. People will get really drunk.
Of course, since Patrick was never beatified by the Catholic Church, he’s not an official Saint, either. And the snakes were already gone from Ireland…
St. Patrick’s day began as an expression of Irish civic pride in America as early as the American Civil War when homesick Irish soldiers formed a parade. After the 1840’s when many Irish moved to the US after the Potato Famine, parades and celebrations of St. Patrick’s day became common in the larger urban areas.
