Responding to criticism that he had reneged on key 1988 campaign pledges, Mr. Bush revealed today that he'd never had any positions to renege on in the first place...His statements, Mr. Bush asserted, had all been furnished by a slick political professor, and that he, Mr. Bush, had just been "mouthing the words."
