And Rita doesn’t seem to know that saying “Over and out” is saying “Reply” and “Don’t reply,” which can be very confusing. I blame the old “Dick Tracy” cartoons for that common error.
I second Flash Gordon’s comment above. I hate the way the mic drop has become popular. It’s a valuable piece of electronic equipment. As someone who used to work in a non-commercial, public television station, things like this were very hard to acquire on a limited budget. We learned to take good care of what we had.
Rita would be stupid enough to say “Over and out.” “Over” means that the person has finished transmitting and is awaiting a response, whereas “out” means that a person has finished his transmission and no response is necessary, so in reality the two words would never appear in a single transmission together.
I feel about “dropping the mic” the same way I feel about “guitarists” who smash their guitars: I don’t know any self respecting guitarist who would play something he/she is willing to smash.

I’m inclined to agree with Jay; that IS the best mic drop that I’ve ever seen.

Looks like Rita got a pretty hefty dose of karma; she dropped the mic, and the mic dropped her. Turnabout is fair play.
