Sounds like the traffic engineers where I live.

A lot of signs read that way. I always wonder at the assumption that people will read the words in an order different from how they line up, just because they change font size or whatnot. Signs like “Automatic Caution Door.,” f’rinstance.

Or words paint don the pave, went, where they expect us to read them in the order they approach, even though we an clearly see them all at once. “Enter Not Do” “Zone Slow” “You Thank”

This is true – I actually took a picture of it back in the 70s. Sign at a driveway into a parking lot, facing the inside of the lot. “Entrance Only – Do Not Enter.”

I always read signs that way. Nice to know I’m not the only one.

Fortunately, those “ONLY EXIT” signs painted on the road work both ways.

I like the strips where they pick up a sign laying on the ground and it says “Put me DOWN!”
