Mike: I can't help myself. I'm drawn to people who do better than expected! Roland (on television): Mr. Buchanan, you're one of the very few figures in recent memory whos' been able to make the crossover from bigtime punditry to big-time politics. What's the difference? Any surprises? Pat Buchanan: Lots of 'em, Roland... First of all, I'd always said that the Washington insider's view is skewed, but I never dreamed it was actually so. When you first wade into real life, like I did in New Hampshire, you find it ain't very pretty! I met a lot of poor, desperate folks up there... What staggered me - I mean, really shook me to the core - was how many of them were... were... um...What's the word I'm looking for? Roland: White? Buchanan: Right. I couldn't get over it.
