My aunt had a dog that for most of his life would leave something in the bowl because he’d been a stray and even though she adopted him before he was a year old and he’d been there 7 years he was upset if there wasn’t something for later in there. However, he did figure out that that was not going to work while living with my (then) puppy. He resumed leaving a few bites when they were living on their own again.

Unless our dog was sick, he ALWAYS finished his food. Our cat, on the other hand…….
