Leopold would probably fit right in, in the 14th century, a century filled with plagues and pox. What a thrill to see the actual Dance of Death!
No need for Leopold to time travel, here in the 21st century we have a variety of choices, Hantavirus, Leptospirosis, and of course good ol’ Bubonic Plague. All potentially very deadly and people here in America still contract it from time to time.
Since it was the fleas on the rat that carried the plague it would have been far better to toss a live one on your mistress’s bed…
