I’ve read stories written by people who built a house in land like that. So many details – like getting the soil to “perk” so a septic system can be installed – can doom the project.
The way I see it, the kids have three things they can do with those wetlands. First, they can leave them alone and let the wildlife use it, which is not a bad thing if you don’t need extra income. Second, they can drain it and farm it, which would destroy the habitat for the birds. Third, they could go into fish farming in the biggest ponds and leave the rest intact.
