Funny how airlines have been abusing customers and claiming financial hardships since the moment their industry was deregulated. Perhaps we should try something different and reinstate all those regulations that kept them from abusing customers and closely audit their books. Then we’ll see if they become profitable or not.
Airlines in general (and United in particular) have a lot to answer for, if it is true that they routinely overbook their flights. And once a paying passenger is settled in his assigned seat, there had better be a really, really good reason to remove him. Has it been established why they chose this particular passenger?
Having said that, I can’t understand why this passenger behaved the way he did. What did he think he had to gain by “going limp” and forcing the security guys to drag him down the aisle? Why not walk down the aisle in a dignified manner, and hash the whole thing out in the terminal building? Then, if the results were unsatisfactory, he could have brought in his lawyers.
