In the 1994 mid-terms Republicans picked up 8 seats in the Senate, giving them 52 seats (later 54 when two Democratic senators flipped).
They picked up 54 seats in the House (largest gain since 1948), giving them 230 seats to Democrats 204 (there was 1 independent).
