Well, they say it’s far easier to get forgiveness than permission….

not that Elliot could have gotten permission to break a lamp….

but he did know he was breaking rules…..

So he’s greasing the rails to forgiveness.

Although this is not the way at my house growing up. I lived in fear of the words…“Wait till your father gets home!” I knew I was doomed, even if I didn’t deserve it (mostly, I did I must concede) . However, on the rare occasion that I did not, I still got it, because (and now I understand this), " You get to leave and I have to stay."

Maybe she won’t mind. Maybe she hated that lamp because it was a gift from her mother in law and now she has an excuse to go out and buy one she likes.
