A book I finished a couple of months ago:The Last Apocalypse: Europe at the Year 1000 A.D. by James Reston, Jr.
It discusses the events in Spain, from the 900s up to just before when this story starts…
It also discusses the Vikings, the Magyars, and Gerbert, “the Wizard” (he wasn’t, really)Basically, it shows that around 1000AD, Europe was becoming more Christian. Lots of interesting history.

The politics of Espania (Spain) were quite a bit more complex than one would initially think at that time. A beautiful map.
After the Muslims were ejected, Leon and Castile joined their houses and soon after Columbus was sent on his passage to India.
