I was happy with XP for years, then my computer died and I had no choice but to buy a vista machine. I really don’t like it. It tells me I don’t have the rights to save downloaded files in directories I created, and some pprograms have to be given permission to run every time they start up - you can’t make them permanently authorized. They should have left well enough alone. I liked XP.
I was unhappy with XP for years [bleeep that Service Pack 2! bleeep it all to hell!] and when I had no choice to but to buy my new laptop with Vista I was hopeful. I really love it. Gee, they’ve already won…except they’ve dropped like a rock in market share (80%? What happened to 95%?), Zune’s market share is a joke vs. the iPod, and obviously this is someone who has never used a Mac, whereas some of us have used both for years and know the difference. But he’s right about the megalomaniac part – except they feel compelled to keep using him in the ads!
Any computer is just a tool which lets me do exactly what I can do by hand, but much faster and at a lower quality, in a format vastly more susceptible to plagiarism. On the upside, it also gives me access to really neat comics which our local so-called newspaper doesn’t carry because Dubya and Pat Robertson wouldn’t approve.
You can certainly run Windows on cheaper hardware, and it works about as badly as you’d expect when you do.
Anyway, maybe Vista won’t forget I’ve installed my printer’s drivers yet again after I reboot, but I’m not holding my breath. It’s doubtless a security feature.
If I can just get another ten years out of my PC, I won’t have to deal with Vista and can retire happy, to spend all my time on the road in an RV, scaring the dingleberries out of commuters.
You must be doing something terrifically wrong to have such problems with Vista. I got it when I replaced my computer and have had no problems at all with it. MUST be something you’re doing.
Aaaaaaand now windows 8 is out and Microsoft is slowly losing its customers to apple :( I like windows, and I still say a PC is better than a mac, mainly due to price. Sadly though, MS is gonna have to do a LOT to get their consumer base back

Been running Linux ever since XP went out of support. Never paid Microsoft a penny since then.
