Thanks Scottfreitas. Like you I get so tired of people who haven’t a clue and automatically blame those they hate for what their own group is doing. I used to be clueless to until I worked with ABS news in DC in the 70’s and saw behind the scenes what goes on. Turned me from a good little rubber stamp Liberal into a questioning Conservative. The bailout money was a payoff. All those companies did what they would have done anyhow (layoffs, bankruptcies, etc.) and the money just disappeared.
Tarpvilles… yannow, with the way they MAKE tents these days, tarps actually sound like a better idea. Better water resistance, don’t get blown over as easily…
Tarpville? HA! Just save up some money and get a nice travel trailer… They are so dirt cheap right now I was able to save up some cash, sell my condo and get a new 38’ with dual sliders… As long as I can keep gas in the truck and generator, I can live where ever I want in complete comfort. And I don’t have to pack to go on vacation! The park where I now live has all the ammenities my condo had, is $300 a month cheaper, and I can walk the 300 yards to work! Oh! And I only lost about 35 sq ft of floor space! I should have done this 10 years ago!
The Lone Ranger and Tonto went camping in the desert. After they got their tent all set up, they fell sound asleep.
Some hours later, Tonto wakes The Lone Ranger and says, “Kemo Sabi, look towards sky, what you see?”
The Lone Ranger replies, “I see millions of stars.”
“What that tell you?” asked Tonto.
The Lone Ranger ponders for a minute, then says, “Astronomically speaking, it tells me there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, it tells me Saturn is in Leo. Time wise, it appears to be approximately a quarter past three in the morning. Theologically, it’s evident the Lord is all-powerful and we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What’s it tell you, Tonto?
Tonto is silent for a moment, then says, “Kemo Sabi,
you dumb ass. It tell me someone stolen tent.”
Which bailout? As I recall it was Bush and his boy Paulson who got the ball rolling on that particular trend with the TARP Mark mentioned at the beginning of this story. Obama and Geithner have kept it going with the (second) economic stimulus and the auto industry bailouts, but they weren’t the first to walk that path.
I get tired too. Tired of ignorant political partisans speaking and behaving as if there’s any functional difference between the two leading parties in Amerikan politics. If any of you honestly believe the major financial players on Wall Street aren’t playing “both” parties like a double-sided fiddle, you’re deluding yourselves.
Remember it was GEORGE BUSH who was president when this bailout started and his crony Paulson as treasury secretary. It was Republican (with plenty of Democrat duplicity) deregulation laws that made this whole mess possible.
Corporations like Citi, Goldman Sachs, and AIG have been long allied with Republicans not Democrats and everyone knows this.
Gee I was getting ready for work and I missed 1 letter, ABC okay. Doesn’t matter, the facts are that any President has limited power. It’s Congress that really does these things to us. Both Parties in Congress work to get re-elected which means they sold out on us before they stand for an election as we only give them our votes, we don’t pay for their campaigns. If you want responsible people in power quit re-electing Congress. If you love your Party then vote in the primaries to kick the incumbent out. The problem is we have career politicians and they don’t have a clue about our needs.
bmwk12ltc couldn’t agree more! But the glitziest campaign gets elected, and the glitz comes from deep-pocket supporters. Get the voters to see the issues and not the glitz – good luck!!!

Sure, why should the Republicans be the only ones to cry out for taxpayer-supplied welfare when their businesses go belly up?

I could be wrong but which party held Congress in the bailout? What party was the president? Ask your kids, they’ll pay for it.

Here’s a nice fact: McSame’s biggest campaign donations came from the financial sector. Thanks to opensecrets.org!
