He didn’t say “natural”. She did. He said “common” urge.

It’s depressing that, like so many Doonesbury strips, this one is still relevant.

It’s threads like this that almost make you wonder how Trudeau could have become known as the finest social cartoonist of the age…

Ahhh, reminds me of the time in church when an ample lady just had her first. (she had 7 more…good Catholic lady that she is) She was in the front pew; the priest was at his stand in front of her ready to give his reading for the day, and baby starts to put up a fuss. Yep….lady opens blouse right there and then, and proceeds to feed the baby. Priest got flustered to the point he stuttered and choked on his own saliva. Reading got cut short….Red priest in green robes. Poor man.

Why are people in the U.S. so hung up on breastfeeding babies in public ? I have never understood this puritanical preoccupation with a normal and natural maternal function. Nowhere else in the world, do people get so uptight about a mother nurturing her child.

Do it, JJ! Do it! Get out there and show the world that breastfeeding your baby is absolutely NOTHING to be ashamed of! It’s beautiful! I support you 500%!

It’s because society portrays breasts as sex objects. So instead of it being normal and natural, it has become tainted in the minds of MEN, and you can’t show them without provoking a sexual response and putting men in a defensive position; (for some men, offensive and uncontrollable). There is nothing wrong with feeding a baby, but a little discretion is not a bad thing either. There are some very clever and cute “ponchos” that offer discretion, yet ease of use for mom and baby.

Sorry, I still think it’s one of the completely natural processes the are slightly disgusting to watch. You have to make an effort to cover up when in public. If not possible, then, perfectly fine, but you wouldn’t rinse your mouth or change diapers (both perfectly natural) in plain view.
