Saw at least one reason for Donnie to be cozying up to the Butcher of the Philippines last night on MSNBC. Rachel showed a brief spot of Donnie extolling the magnificence of a Trump business in Manila. At least I think that’s what he was touting – I have a terrible time concentrating on anything Donnie is saying due to his continual lying – his words and wording do not process well.
I agree with DrDon1 and Masterskrain, above: the So-Called Prez seems more likely to be smiling at this, an efficient way to rid oneself of “this trouble-some ‘fake press’.”
Ordinarily interventor “might” make sense in promoting diplomacy. But trump is too ignorant and too mentally ill to be diplomatic. There’s no reason to believe trump has any shred of diplomatic motivation here. The very best shot the US had to protect American interests in Asia was the TPP.
But apart from that, trump is motivated by Duterte’s authoritarian violent style. Trump actually admires the North Korean and Russian strongmen, and wants to emulate them. That would feed trump’s sociopathic narcissism.
However, in this case, there is not only the sick motivation stemming from his fascination with violent dictators, but there’s also the trump real estate in the Philipines. Duterte’s recently appointed “special trade envoy” to the US paid trump $5 million to use the trump name on a building there. Emoluments anyone?

Tramp would do the same thing to America. Congress decided not to give Sessions any money to prosecute Marijuana.
