When Double D starts talkin’, Van Auken starts walkin’. P1- Those floors are so slick, they’re an OSHA violation. Those kids left skid marks slowing down to turn the hallway corner.
P1, Van Awkward is accosted at his locker by Double D who appears to be talking out of her, well, the back of her head.
P2, Ryan, you were going to a private school in Central City. Where you live doesn’t matter. Central City wasn’t so far away that Del Bader couldn’t go there drinking every day and getting home without being pulled over or getting into an accident. Well, until Boo’s mom needed some bread and milk from the Swifty Mart. So yeah, Double D, there’s a story here if you can dig it out. Maybe ask if he was driving a pickup truck in Milford about a year ago.
P3, Our intrepid reporter might need another tip from her source, Deep Throat.
Why’d he move? Dad got an unexpected promotion selling Industrial Solvents. Double D seems troubled by the concept of moving. That may explain why she can’t keep a boy friend.
In all reality, Milford has very transient population due to the Federal Witness Protection Program . Ryan’s dad was a street boss in the Chicago Outfit who turned informant and placed in witness protection in Milford.
We had kids moving back and forth between the public schools and private schools all the time. It was usually either sports or disciplinary related. All that time I wasted in HS journalism class on “our cafeteria food sucks” when I could have been investigating why classmates ended up at my school. 50%+ were at East K-E-MS-HS from K – 12 and now I hear, “And some of you never let me forget I was the new kid, who moved in, in 2nd grade. From the big city.” Ryan is fortunate to be in an environment in which he will be nurtured but I predict there will be some tense moments ahead for the MHS baseball, softball and track/field teams. Those bad girls from out of town are up to no good. The wisdom of Coach Thorp, though, will ultimately prevail, just in time for football season.
Yeah, this is like the mystery of the century, because nobody ever changes schools. Let’s see, the tuition was too expensive, we moved and the old school is too far away, I didn’t fit in there and needed a change…
Should make for a super riveting article. Is she then going to interview every other transfer student? As often as transfers end up on the sports teams, there must be 50 kids a year transferring in. And speaking of transferring, transfer your attention over to today’s Mopped Up Thorp: https://moppedupthorp.wordpress.com/

Wouldn’t it seem odd to just walk up to someone at his locker and ask such a random question out of the blue?

Exactly how is he carrying that book in panel three? Is it glued to his upper arm to hold it there?
