In my grandmother’s last years (she lived to be 102), often she would recognise me when i came to visit, and she would recognise my brother if he was there at the same time. She knew who we were - her grandchildren, sons of her daughter, Alice. But if she were to be alone with one of us for a moment, she would ask if we knew each other. It’s hard.
